October 14th Apple Notebook Event Predictions

Tuesday is closing by and we finally find out the outcome of rumor mill which has been on for past few months. Original rumors predicted new Mac notebooks to be published in July when Intel presented it’s Centrino 2 platform. Was it manufacturing problems or something else, nevertheless Apple pushed the launch of new notebooks all the way back to October, causing them to miss the back-to-school markets.

I’ve had my notebook purchase on hold from that very July when Centrino 2 was released, so you can say I’m quite anxious to see new notebooks. Based on the most persistent rumors, I have collected a list of predictions which I think have very good chance to come true at Tuesday’s event.

MacBook Pro

  • Three screen sizes: 13”, 15” and 17”
  • 16:10, LED backlit screen
  • No fireware 400, just backwards compatible firewire 800
  • DVI replaced with mini-DVI
  • MacBook Air style keyboard
  • Glass trackpad
  • Better battery-life, thinner, lighter
  • Price drop of 10-15%

MacBook

  • One or possibly two screen sizes: 13” and 15”
  • 16:10, LED backlit screen
  • Aluminum frame, with black plastic outer shell (similar to iMac’s back shell)
  • Nvidia integrated graphics chip
  • No fireware 400, just backwards compatible firewire 800
  • Glass trackpad
  • Low-end model for only $800
  • Thinner, lighter

MacBook Air

  • Glass trackpad
  • CPU upgrade
  • Price drop of 10-15%
  • Nvidia integrated graphics chip

And hopefully we see a quiet Mac Mini upgrade, current models are way outdated.
