YLE Areena works now on iPhone

Finland’s national public service broadcasting company YLE, launched their Internet TV service (similar to BBC’s iPlayer) now on mobile devices such as iPhone. It can be accessed via YLE’s mobile portal: yle.mobi. There are two video quality levels: medium and high. HQ video looks good and plays fine on iPhone in wifi network.

Later this year YLE will also relaunch the web version of Areena with support for Mac and Linux operating systems. This is a welcome move since YLE Areena is currently only supporting Microsoft’s Windows Media format. Supporting only one proprietary format has raised strong criticism in Linux friendly country.
